Performance

‘Igniting the passion for performance and lifelong participation in sport and creative arts’

In the faculty of Performance we believe a high quality curriculum enables our students to adopt a more positive attitude as well as developing a wide range of qualities such as: cooperation, passion, motivation and discipline, which will support them throughout their lives.

Our PE curriculum aims to ensure that all pupils develop the fundamental skills and competence to excel in a wide range of physical activities by providing a broad and balanced curriculum with opportunities for all to be enjoyed.

A high quality PE curriculum at Key Stage 3 will develop physical literacy and will allow pupils to learn about themselves, the importance of a healthy lifestyle, self-expression and concepts such as fair play and respect. It also contributes to the development of a range of important cognitive skills such as decision making and analysis, and social skills such as teamwork and communication.  At Key Stage 4 our PE curriculum will continue to ensure that pupils of all abilities access the range of activities we offer and that they are physically active for sustained periods of time in order to encourage them to lead healthy, active lives. In addition, we offer our students the opportunity to study a BTEC to motivate young learners, and open doors to progression into further study or the workplace.

The Performing Arts aim to provide a vibrant and energetic environment, which develops a creative and disciplined approach to the study of Drama, Dance and Music through a combination of practical and written activities that not only enriches knowledge and understanding of a variety of playwrights, theatre and music practitioners, but also develops the emotional intelligence of the students, producing well-rounded individuals.

At KS3 students gain knowledge and understanding of different styles and genres of Drama, Dance and Music through a very practical approach, whilst developing skills in team work, leadership, communication, time management, organisation, creativity and self-discipline – all of which will assist students as life skills. This essentially forms the foundation for KS4 which develops a much more detailed and in depth knowledge of subjects that will equip them with the necessary skills for the examined units and enable students to achieve their maximum potential.
