It’s important for every school and college to have a special program that helps students figure out what they want to do when they grow up. This program should be known and understood by students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and employers.
It’s also really important for students and their parents to have access to good information about what they can study in the future and what kind of jobs are out there.
During dedicated PSHE, each year group learns about different careers and how to find them. They also learn about things like applying for jobs, going to interviews, and the skills they’ll need to be successful at work.
We have a really great connection with our local LEP, which is a group that helps with economic development. We meet with them every few months to talk about how we can make our area, Stoke and North Staffordshire, even better. We use information about the local job market to figure out what areas we should focus on for growth and improvement. During these sessions we evaluate our progress towards meeting the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks using a tool called Compass.
