On Tuesday 27th June we were lucky enough to be able to take our Year 8 cohort to Staffordshire University for a taster day of Uni life!
The day began with an introduction to higher education and explored some of the myths about access to university and finance.
Students enjoyed a Q&A session with some current undergraduate students and asked them some very insightful questions!
Students experienced a tour of the campus looking at some of the educational facilities as well as looking at some o f the on-site student accommodation, and then had the chance to be part of a degree course taster session. These sessions, delivered by the Staffs University lecturers, included Law, Sport’s Journalism, Forensic Science, Comic Arts (Mr Hammond’s favourite, ask him about his ‘Batman Scooby-Do’) and probably the students’ (and Mr Davies’) favourite, Engineering.
Our Year 8 students were fantastic ambassadors for Ormiston Meridian Academy, were very engaged in the tasks and left with some excellent ambitions for their future career options! Thank you to Higher Horizons and Staffordshire University for hosting and well done to Year 8 for an excellent day!
