Expedition Training – Practice Walk 1

Practice Walk 1 took place in the area surrounding Tittesworth Reservoir. Although it was cold the weather stayed fine and we had a great day with fantastic views of the Roaches in the background. This was the first opportunity to get outside and begin to focus on some of the key navigational skills and techniques involved with lowland walking and the expedition section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

By the end of the day all four of the groups developed knowledge of how to orientate a map using a compass as well as features of the land. They also learned other key skills including how to take bearings and how to pace out distances accurately.
